[Closed] J.1 <--> Moodle 1.9

In trying to install the latest Joomdle version for Joomla 1.6 - I notice there is no auth_joomdle.zip in the installation package.

I assume this is still required - when I tried to install the previous auth_joomdle I received several errors - so before I try and unravel those I wanted to make certain there is not a new version.

Joomdle for Joomla 1.6 only supports Moodle 2.x right now (not 1.9.x).

In joomdle package, there is a folder called moodle20 that contains auth_joomdle.zip for Moodle 2.0.

That would explain it! How could I have missed the fact that it only supports 2.x??

I will try a new install and see what I get.

Is there any word on getting a Joomla 1.6<-> Moodle 1.9 Joomdle operational? Moodle 2.x is just too slow for me to even consider it at the moment, and I have to have Joomla 1.6 because it's the only version thusfar to offer subcategories natively.

No we have not done any work to bring Joomla 1.6 and Moodle 1.9. At this time you are the only one asking for it. I agree that Moodle 2.0 has performance issues - seen them myself and I don't want the hassle of configuring the system to meet resolve the performance issues. That said, from what I have read 2.1 has addressed this issue ??

Is so, I would think this is a better option. Also, Joomla 1.6 will be dead very soon and not supported by joomla.org so, I think it would be a more logical step to set the priority on Joomla 1.7 and Moodle 2.1 - but I need to discuss this first with Antonio.

Well my tests show that Moodle 2.1 is about 10 times slower than 1.9. That's on a quad core Xeon server running eaccelerator. Sometimes 2.1 is so slow that I can't successfully install it; I'm assuming it's a timeout issue but with success rate of about 1 in 4, I'm not holding my breath that they'll have it any better.

That said, are you suggesting that you're planning on making a J! 1.7 <-> Moodle 1.9 integration? If so, I'll wait for it to come out, if not then I'll either move back to 1.5 or I'll hack your 1.5<->1.9 to work with 1.6.

It's disappointing to hear that 2.1 is not much better I was under the impression that they had done some work such to improve the performance without having to find the right configuration. This will cause me frustration in my business too.

At this time, we have not planned for J1.7 <--> Moodle 1.9. It's really a matter of what ppl are asking for and what we can get done giving timing. Once Antonio is back from holidays, end July, I'll discuss with him re J1.7.

For now, I'll put this on the feature request list.

Thanks. Yeah, I was hoping that the slowness was just on my end but I've been reading a lot of reports of people who are using shared hosting who have their accounts shut down over CPU usage so I know it's not confined to just me.

I don't suppose you guys have a git or otherwise that I can track source code changes more easily, do you? I created a diff file that has 29-ish changes that were made between the 1.5/2.0 release and the 1.6/2.0 release(both are v 0.5, so I still have to integrate the changes between 0.5 and 0.54) and I'm assuming that most of those are J! specific and should be able to be applied to the 1.5/1.9 release to bring it up to 1.6 compatibility, though there are some changes that I'm going to assume were M! 2.0 specific and I'd like to be able to pick out the differences, if that's a possibility. I'd be willing to submit any changes I make. Of course I'd also just be happy with 1.7<->1.9 integration but at least I would be able to help out on some level.

Are work you do to bring 1.6 / 1.7 to 1.9 would certainly be appreciated. Antonio will be back soon, so we can discuss this with him at that time.
